Under the hood, the Desire 820 runs on Qualcomm's Snapdragon 615, an octa-core setup pairing four 1.5GHz Cortex-A53 cores with four 1.0GHz cores, backed by Adreno 405 graphics. That's paired with 2GB of RAM and 16GB storage, which is on the tighter side, though a microSD slot lets you add up to 128GB more. The 5.5-inch LCD screen fills most of the front panel at a 67.2% screen-to-body ratio.

Camera-wise, you get a 13MP rear sensor with autofocus and LED flash, plus an 8MP front camera capable of 1080p video, decent numbers for a 2014-era mid-ranger. The 2600mAh battery is modest by today's standards but was reasonable at launch given the display size. It ships with Android 4.4.2 KitKat and supports LTE, stereo speakers, and dual-band Wi-Fi.

At 155g and 7.7mm thin, it's light for its size, and it comes in a wide spread of colour options including Tangerine White and Saffron Grey, which was unusual for the segment at the time.
